The Emory neuromodulation and Technology Innovation Center (ENTICe) is soliciting applications for its 2016 Pilot Grant Program.  The objective of this funding is to promote the testing of new ideas, the generation of preliminary data to support additional grant applications, and/or the development of new collaborations via short-term funding.

2016 ENTICe CATALYST FUNDING PROGRAM

Catalyst Funding Available to Facilitate New Research:

ENTICe has funds available to catalyze new areas of investigation or innovation focused on the development of new neurotechnology from ideas or interactions that arose through an Innovation Forum. The objective of funding of projects is to foster the testing of new ideas, generation of preliminary data, and/or development of new collaborations via short-term funding, e.g. up to one year. $25,000 is available this year that will likely be awarded as two $12,500 (or smaller) grants. An exceptional proposal requiring greater funding may be considered under special circumstances. Criteria for funding:

1. Proposal needs to support new collaborations or research ideas arising from an innovation forum




2. Likelihood that funding will lead to a “next step” (such as follow-up funding or patents)




3. Novelty of the project and quality of the experimental design




4. Presence of well-defined endpoints for the funding period




5. Appropriate budget

Funding Cycle:

Proposals will be due on December 1, 2016 by 11:59 PM EST.  Funding will be awarded no later than February 1, 2017.

Investigator eligibility:                                        

Proposals may be submitted by faculty members who have a primary appointment in an Emory University department and who are eligible to serve as PIs on proposals for extramural funding.

Application Guidelines:

1. Applications much consist of the following information:
   
   1. Cover page, stating project title, applicant name(s), titles, email address, department, and requested award amount

   
   

   2. Project summary (no more than 300 words)

   
   

   3. Description of the project (no more than 2 pages, following regular NIH formatting guidelines, and including all figures, tables and other items), including:
      
      1. idea(s) and significance

      
      

      2. testable hypothesis or objective

      
      

      3. research proposal

      
      

      4. deliverables

      
      

      5. project goal/development plan

      
      

   
   

   4. Budget and budget justification

   
   

   5. IRB/IACUC approval if necessary

   
   

   6. NIH-style biosketches for each PI and co-PI

   
   




2. Funds may be used for data collection and analysis, research lab supplies, and student/postdoc/technical support, but not for faculty salaries. Indirect expenses will not be covered.




3. Submit a PDF applications with the filename as “Lastname_ENTICEpilot.PDF” (For example: Smith_ENTICEpilot.pdf) to shannon.walker@emory,edu 

Post-funding requirements:

1. A final project summary is expected within two months of the conclusion of the funding period.




2. The PIs are expected to serve as reviewers for future ENTICe pilot project proposals and to present their work at an Innovation Forum.
