Virtual NSF Fellowship Essay Workshop
Designed to support neuroscience and neural engineering researchers applying for fellowships like the NSF GRFP.
The Neural Engineering Center at Georgia Tech and Emory University will be hosting our Virtual Fellowship Essay Workshop on Tuesday, October 21 from 5:00 to 6:30pm. We are happy to report that 3 of 27 participants last year were awarded NSF GRFP fellowships, with 4 honorable mentions, thanks to our amazing mentors! Additionally, one participant received an NDSEG fellowship!
We will focus on research and personal essays required of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF), which are similar to those required for other fellowships awarded to graduate students in their first year such as the NDSEG, DOE, and Hertz Fellowships. For a list of fellowships you may be eligible for, please see (and add to this list: Fellowships).
Note that the NSF GRF has not yet been announced this year, but we do expect it to be announced, likely with a short timeline and some changes from prior years. Guidelines from last year are here:NSF 24-591: NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) | NSF - National Science Foundation Check for new announcements here: NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) | NSF - National Science Foundation
Please identify an appropriate fellowship you are eligible for and write drafts of the Research Plan and Personal Statement. Typically we suggest eligible PhD students to apply for the NSF GRF in the fall of their second year, however, prior graduate work will advance this timeline. Drafts must be submitted in advance and critiqued by mentors and peers at the workshop. Current NSF fellows can apply for additional fellowships and serve as mentors.
If you were or are a recipient of the NSF Graduate Fellowship or other fellowship and/or would like to assist as a mentor, please sign up through the google form.
